Update log

Research updates and corrections log

See material Beard Insider research, formula, methodology, correction, and tool updates in a public dated record.

A public record of material research, formula, methodology, and tool changes. Cosmetic products and source pages change; a visible update trail is more useful than a vague “updated” date.

July 12, 2026

  • Introduced product evidence passports with dated price observations, package-size checks, cost-per-ounce calculations where possible, ingredient snapshots, fragrance disclosures, and named unknowns.
  • Published the Beard Insider Evidence Standard and Product Safety Desk.
  • Added evidence-led guides for acne under a beard, minoxidil label literacy, beard-dye safety, and facial hair with workplace respirators.
  • Published a label-first beard product shelf-life checker with optional device-only open-date records.
  • Corrected the product chooser’s mobile fieldset layout, light-background contrast, narrow-screen sizing, and sensitive-skin evidence boundaries.
  • Expanded the face-style, keep-or-shave, and private beard-review pages with durable decision frameworks.
  • Changed the public product destination from “Reviews” to “Product Research” to match the current evidence level.
  • Added non-destructive content migrations so plugin updates do not overwrite edited articles or manufacture a new review date.

How changes are logged

This page records changes that alter a reader’s decision: formula or price observations, corrected claims, source replacements, methodology changes, and material tool logic. Spelling and layout fixes are not normally listed.

Public correction log

No material public corrections have been recorded yet. The research update entries above document methodology and library changes.

Report something that changed

Use the corrections form and include the affected URL, the current product variant, and a source when possible. A report is reviewed before the public record changes.

July 13, 2026 — Policy and privacy foundation

Published a central policy hub, expanded the privacy and local-storage inventory, and added Terms of Use, affiliate and product-review disclosure, a grooming and safety disclaimer, and an accessibility statement. The update also added built-in export and erasure support for reader records, a 24-month resolved-message cleanup, and removal of unused public order-attribution scripts.

July 13, 2026 — Routine finder email separation

Redesigned the product finder and added a disclosed email unlock before recommendations appear. The six beard and skin choices remain in the browser and are not sent to Beard Insider. Beard Notes remains a separate optional choice, routine-only email records expire within 30 days, and matching email records are covered by the site’s export and erasure tools.

July 13, 2026 — Routine builder evidence and impact criteria

Added a ten-question, browser-local routine builder that recommends product jobs, order, cadence, use-what-you-own options, formula guardrails, and specific lower-impact criteria before handing a product category to the existing finder. The builder avoids broad chemical-free, non-toxic, clean, and eco-friendly scores; unknown product evidence remains unknown. Safety and respirator intercepts are visible without an email gate.

July 13, 2026 — Product research library, ingredient ratings, and saved profiles

Moved the product evidence library from /reviews/ to /product-research/, added source-numbered ingredient research with separate toxicology, environmental, usefulness, and confidence fields, and added repeated AI-assistance and correction notices. External evidence links use nofollow. Readers can now create an optional account, save research profiles, export the saved list, or erase it.

July 13, 2026 — Ingredient library and product-label cross-links

Published a separate ingredient directory generated from every named item in current product-research snapshots. Exact names and verified aliases link to stable evidence records; broad label buckets remain visible as disclosure gaps instead of being treated as identified ingredients. Each record separates formula role, beard-hair and skin context, environmental evidence, sensitivity, confidence, and unknowns, and links back to the product wording and dated source.

July 14, 2026 — Controlled human evidence review and sitewide nofollow

Added a human-clinical evidence layer to product and ingredient research. Included controlled trials now show design, participant group, measured results, usefulness, and transfer limits; weak or non-human evidence is excluded from clinical-result summaries. Added randomized evidence briefs to relevant beard-growth, razor-bump, and dermatitis guides. External anchors are now processed sitewide so every off-site link carries rel="nofollow"; links opening a new tab also retain noopener noreferrer.

July 14, 2026 — Human, ecological, and sourcing evidence for every ingredient

Expanded all current exact ingredient records with separate human-use, fish and aquatic-animal, plant and terrestrial-wildlife, persistence and environmental-fate, and sourcing fields. Added crop- and collection-specific guidance for argan, shea, cocoa, coconut, avocado, grape-seed oil, beeswax, candelilla, surfactant fatty feedstocks, botanical extracts, and palm-capable derivatives. Higher-priority flags identify a supported screening reason or a material data gap; they are not finished-product safety verdicts. External evidence remains nofollow.

July 15, 2026 — Account-gated tool results

Changed every personalized decision tool so readers complete the inputs first and then create or sign in to a free Beard Insider account before the result appears. Added browser-local answer handoff across sign-in redirects, protected device-saved experiment and shelf-life views, and kept urgent reaction and red-flag guidance visible without delay. Tool answers and photos are not attached to accounts.

July 15, 2026 — Passwordless email-code account access

Replaced the tool gate’s reader-entered password with a six-digit code delivered after a generic email request. Only verified customers and subscribers use the convenience sign-in; privileged or restricted accounts stay on standard authentication. Challenges are HMAC-only, connection-bound, rate and attempt limited, and atomically single use. Email-continuation locking prevents duplicate users and cookie confirmation fails closed before reveal. Google, Amazon, and Microsoft sign-in options retain global low-privilege guards and remain unavailable until each connection is individually configured and verified.

July 17, 2026 — Account choices, Beard Notes, and site audit

Added visible Google, Amazon, and Microsoft account choices that fail closed until each provider is configured and verified, plus a separate Beard Notes waitlist for product and editorial updates. A full production crawl found no broken pages or assets. This release also corrected the canonical cookie-policy links and sitemap, hardened reader-record permissions and privacy cleanup, added baseline browser security headers, and improved keyboard focus and form feedback.

July 20, 2026 — Search-intent guides and ingredient index quality

Expanded six high-intent beard guides with direct answers, comparison tables, evidence boundaries, and contextual next steps; added an answer-first shelf-life summary; and aligned ingredient indexing with the published evidence rule. Ingredient records without ingredient-specific sources remain available for transparent label research but are noindexed and excluded from XML sitemaps until strengthened.

July 20, 2026 — Evergreen guide depth, diagrams, and decision paths

Expanded six core guides with answer-first summaries, primary-source boundaries, comparison tools, and original accessible editorial diagrams for the first 30 days, patchy-beard style decisions, ingredient-label reading, and one-variable routine testing. Added curated next-decision links across all 18 editorial guides and established a maintained content inventory with ownership and refresh triggers.

July 20, 2026 — Routine and formula decision cluster

Published evidence-led guides for beard oil versus facial moisturizer and qualified carrier-oil comparison. Expanded the routine pillar with a job-based order and routines by beard length and skin response, connected the guides to private tools and dated product research, and added consent-gated measurement for tool-entry and official product-source journeys.

July 21, 2026 — Health-adjacent evidence and review governance

Expanded the acne, growth-claim, minoxidil, beard-dye, razor-bump, and workplace-respirator guides with standardized evidence-fit labels, clearer stop signs, source dates, and explicit clinical-review status. Individual castor-oil, rosemary-oil, biotin, minoxidil, and microneedling claims now separate direct, indirect, label, and unestablished evidence. Corrected the facial-hair trial author attribution to Wattanawinitchai et al. Microneedling instructions remain unpublished pending named qualified review. A quarterly source-review queue now governs these higher-risk pages.

July 21, 2026 — Millimeter-first trimming and beard-border references

Published a beard trimmer length chart that separates millimeter settings from non-universal guard numbers, plus a conservative cheek-line guide. Added three original accessible reference diagrams, expanded the neckline guide, and strengthened the style finder with density, texture, length, and maintenance checks. The reference pages include printable views, share controls, dated primary sources, and image metadata tied only to the original visual assets.

July 21, 2026 — Product decision layers, formula snapshots, and hands-on protocol

Rechecked the six product profiles against their official brand pages, added exact-variant formula snapshot IDs and first-snapshot history states, and reorganized each profile so official facts, Beard Insider interpretation, unknowns, and hands-on status appear before deep ingredient context. Published the operational hands-on testing protocol covering identity, purchase and sample disclosure, comparison controls, repeatable observations, photographs, stop rules, formula changes, and reporting. No product is marked hands-on tested.

July 21, 2026 — Ingredient comparison pathways and community-informed publication gate

Added final ingredient-specific assessment records for shea butter, citric acid, and cetyl alcohol; promoted only those current records to index eligibility; and kept fragrance/parfum as a noindexed collective disclosure record. Added reader pathways across conditioning ingredients, cleansers, humectants, preservatives, fragrance terms, and fatty versus volatile alcohols. Published the contributor and review gate required before standalone Black, curly, or coarse beard-care coverage can go live; no community-specific guide is represented as completed.

July 21, 2026 — Public research dataset, citation-link correction, and Sprint 8 baseline

Published a human-readable research index with matching CSV and JSON downloads covering current source-reviewed guides, product profiles, and all public ingredient records. Corrected the July 14 blanket external-link rule: trusted editorial citations now use ordinary crawlable links, while sponsored, user-generated, authentication, and untrusted relationships retain appropriate attributes. Recorded a zero-impression, zero-click, no-query latest exact one-day Search Console snapshot and deferred title pruning until a complete evidence window exists. Recompressed responsive homepage images and removed an unnecessary full-page citation-rewrite buffer; lab checks remain diagnostic rather than field Core Web Vitals.
