Randomized, double-blind study with glycerol and paraffin in uremic xerosis

- Randomized, double-blind, intraindividual, multicenter comparison lasting 7 days.
- Participants
- 100 adults with moderate-to-severe uremic xerosis; 99 were analyzed.
- Measured result
- Clinical response was 73% on legs treated with the glycerol/paraffin emulsion versus 44% with the comparator emulsion (P < .0001). Objective scaling also favored the test emulsion (P < .0001).
- Why it is useful
- Supports a narrow conclusion that a specified glycerol/paraffin formula can improve clinically dry skin under controlled conditions.

- Short study; diseased lower-leg skin; combination formula; no healthy facial skin, beard hair, isolated glycerin, or finished beard product was tested.
