Randomized, double-blind study with glycerol and paraffin in uremic xerosis

Design
Randomized, double-blind, intraindividual, multicenter comparison lasting 7 days.
Participants
100 adults with moderate-to-severe uremic xerosis; 99 were analyzed.
Measured result
Clinical response was 73% on legs treated with the glycerol/paraffin emulsion versus 44% with the comparator emulsion (P < .0001). Objective scaling also favored the test emulsion (P < .0001).

Supports a narrow conclusion that a specified glycerol/paraffin formula can improve clinically dry skin under controlled conditions.
